This placement provides those with some knowledge of medicine or simply an interest in helping out a chance to learn about how medicine in practiced in small local clinics (not hospitals but still practicing bio-medicine rather than traditional Peruvian medicine). Special skills are not required, but a background in medicine would of course be very welcome. A fee of $350 USD per month (plus $50 registration fee) includes a private room with a middle-class Peruvian family, 3 meals a day in the home, volunteer placement, staff support, and local cultural excursions. Please note: volunteers are responsible for their own travel and insurance expenses (likely at least $700 USD including your plane ticket to Peru depending on where you´re coming from). Spanish lessons are available if volunteers are interested.
